Sapthuran/Leviathan split 2006

As any of you who actually know me will atest my love of the music from San Francisco's Wrest is undying. He is in my opinion the best thing to be happening to black metal in the united states right now. That being said you could imagine the elation i felt upon finding this gem available for download. The album begins with three tracks from Kentucky's Sapthuran. The music almost reminds me of a bastard child of WITTR's demos mixed with Aske era Burzum, and slightly distorted gutterals all come together to form a decent first half (in all honesty i could do without tracks 1 and 3 and keep the acoustic interlude in the first half and just make it the intro for leviathan since, lets face it, he makes this album).
And now for the pummeling hatred that is Leviathan. Solo project of Wrest (who is also involved in Twilight, Krieg and his other solo project Lurker of Chalice as well as being former session drummer for Nachtmystium) he contributes more of his manic, hateful black metal. This time however he is using an acoustic drum set rather than his eletronic kit as found on other releases (Massive Conspircy Against All Life being the only other release with acoustic percusion) which is noticed right off the bat when the track Odious Convulsions bursts forth with blast beats at around the 1:12 point. From there on out it is a chatoic blend of spiteful energy and minimalist drum and bass dissonance. Track 5 "The Fourth Blind Wound" is the highlight of the album.
