Sapthuran/Leviathan split 2006

As any of you who actually know me will atest my love of the music from San Francisco's Wrest is undying. He is in my opinion the best thing to be happening to black metal in the united states right now. That being said you could imagine the elation i felt upon finding this gem available for download. The album begins with three tracks from Kentucky's Sapthuran. The music almost reminds me of a bastard child of WITTR's demos mixed with Aske era Burzum, and slightly distorted gutterals all come together to form a decent first half (in all honesty i could do without tracks 1 and 3 and keep the acoustic interlude in the first half and just make it the intro for leviathan since, lets face it, he makes this album).
And now for the pummeling hatred that is Leviathan. Solo project of Wrest (who is also involved in Twilight, Krieg and his other solo project Lurker of Chalice as well as being former session drummer for Nachtmystium) he contributes more of his manic, hateful black metal. This time however he is using an acoustic drum set rather than his eletronic kit as found on other releases (Massive Conspircy Against All Life being the only other release with acoustic percusion) which is noticed right off the bat when the track Odious Convulsions bursts forth with blast beats at around the 1:12 point. From there on out it is a chatoic blend of spiteful energy and minimalist drum and bass dissonance. Track 5 "The Fourth Blind Wound" is the highlight of the album.

Wardruna- Runaljod-Gap Var Ginnunga

Two of Norway's most prolific black metal musicians team up to bring you...an ambient ritualistic folk album? The name of the band is Wardruna, with ex-Gorgoroth and Jotunspor drummer Kvitrafn taking care of all instrumentation and lyrics with help from Gaahl and Lindy Fay Hella on vocals. While this album does not feature the distorted guitar or pummelling drums of the two artist's past releases (in fact almost all of the instruments used on this album are hand made), it does succeed in creating some incredibly dark music. A brilliant album and a remarkable first release from a project that upon learning about I was very weary. Highly recommended.

a change of pace

Straying away from black metal for a post i am pleased to post a link to download an excellent split between a pair of swedish d-beat/crust bands Human Waste and Uncle Charles. Released in 2003 on at least 4 different labels (including Wasted Sounds and regression records). Tracks 1-6 are from Uncle Charles while 7-9 are from Human Waste.

a USBM masterpiece

So today i finally found Weakling's "Dead As Dreams" available for download (I had seen it before but there was always something wrong with the file). Anyway here it is, Weakling's one and only studio album. 5 songs stretching over an hour and 15 minutes.

its been a while heres a few albums to check out

Haven't been on here a while since I've been moving and started a new job as a samichdude at jimmy johns so here's more music (i don't even know who I'm posting for, if anyone)

First up is Dawn from Sweden. I had been looking for a download of this album for a while and finally found it. Pretty good black metal without the boring constant blast beats and tremello picking. Here is their first full length "Nær Sólen Gar Niþer For Evogher" (1994).

Next is "Til Minne..." from one of Gaahl"s (gorgoroth, gaahlskaag, wardruna) numerous projects. Its essentially him picking up where he left off with "Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam" but with a different backing band. A good album for those into gaahl era gorgoroth, not so much for the infernus loyalists (although if you have that mindset i doubt you would even bother to give this a listen in the first place).

And finally I bring to you France's Alcest (neige from peste noire's brainchild).  This is their first EP entitled "Le Secret". Its two songs the first one opens up with a 3 minute guitar intro before the rest of the instruments and the black metal riffing burst in. The only way i can really describe this album is melancholy shoegaze meets Peste Noire-esque black metal. Honestly one of my favorite albums i have heard recently and definitely worth checking out. Its good stuff

Trees- Freed Of This Flesh

From Portland, Oregon come drone doom outfit Trees with their 2010 EP "Freed Of This Flesh". Its similar in sound and atmosphere to Argentinum Astrum's doomier parts if youre into that kindof thing. Check it out, its good stuff.

and the day just keeps rolling on by

I have done nothing with my day so far except sit around in the exact same spot trying to get motivated to cut my hair and go get food and skate (not something that takes much motivation just trying to figure out the best order in which to do things during my day). Anyway i recently rediscovered this excellent, albeit depressing, film "The Bridge". Its in seperate segments on documentarywire and i hope you arent a douchebag enough to let that be the reason you dont check it out. So, check it out.

Mediafire: http://www.mediafire.com/?1momwndmjmz
Finally found this split i had been looking for since its release in april of this year. Its from depressive black metal bands Tenebrae in Perpetuum (Italy) and Krohm (USA). Its good stuff if youre into that kind of thing. check it out

Rator- Possessed (2008)

So i found some pretty alright old school black metal while repeatedly hitting the random band button on Encyclopaedia Metallum tonight. Rator from Malaysia. This is their entire 1990 demo along with three tracks which were re-recorded in 2006.
